Role description:
We are actively seeking an Associate Technical Director - Mechanical to join our Water & Utilities MEICA team. You will be based out of our Bangalore/ Hyderabad/ Mumbai/ Noida offices. In this role, you'll play a pivotal role in establishing and consolidating relationships across Arcadis and our client base, managing the technical delivery and design outputs of some of the UK's most complex and stimulating projects in the Water sector.

Our Water Design and Engineering team is involved in some of the UK’s most complex and stimulating projects that are diverse and technically demanding. We have an excellent reputation in the delivery of such schemes and are working closely with some of the UK’s most established and recognisable companies, undertaking a vast array of projects to enhance the UK’s water infrastructure and environment.
As an Associate Technical Director - Mechanical, you will be a key leader within our multidisciplinary delivery teams on a variety of water and wastewater capital projects, having the opportunity to apply your expertise to projects for our clients regionally and across the UK.
Reporting to the Associate / Technical Director, you will be responsible for technically leading and/or managing the delivery of project-related tasks to meet budget, timeframe and quality targets, meeting, or exceeding client expectations, promoting and marketing all facets of Arcadis' services during interfaces with clients and other sectors and disciplines, contributing towards the achievement of the divisional business plan and building networks within the industry.
Role accountabilities:
- Ability to self-start and work both independently and as a team member carrying out production, checking, review or approval of complex electrical detailed designs including calculations, specifications, reports, and drawings.
- Supporting and / or Leading design and advisory services relating to new and existing water and wastewater process plants, pumping stations and ancillary assets.
- Ensuring safety of yourself and others through design leadership and actions.
- Technical delivery of multi-disciplinary projects, in a Design Lead capacity where assigned, using latest digital design techniques.
- Identify and develop innovative and optimised technical solutions based on client needs and drivers
- Lead and co-ordinate work with multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., process, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and ICA)
- Establish and grow relationships with clients and partners on project technical, commercial and progress matters
- Ensuring projects meet required technical, legislative, quality, safety and environmental standards and objectives.
- Mentoring and technical supervising colleagues with their professional development.
- Line management and performance development responsibility for assigned staff
- Capturing key project and technical knowledge, including innovations
- Support Regional Capability Leads, Discipline Directors to achieve performance targets, team growth and objectives.
- Manage the delivery of tasks per Arcadis Management Systems to meet time, quality, budgetary, and health and safety targets.
- Ensure that complex technical projects are effectively led with good communication and collaboration between GEC, UK and its partner organisations, proactively leading the resolution of technical issues.
- Take responsibility for the financial and quality performance of projects at a discipline level, creating a culture of ownership and accountability.
- Regularly assess the overall health of the discipline team, identifying gaps and solutions
- Lead and support the implementation of continual improvements in technical capability and delivery performance
- Drive the Health and safety culture of the business within the team and promote continual improvement in SHE performance across the business, including ‘safe by design’ initiatives and any specific personal targets.
Required Competencies:
- Be an experienced mechanical engineer, with a sound and practicable holistic understanding of delivering engineering solutions in complex multi-disciplinary projects.
- Be experienced in the design management of the MEICA engineering
- Possess a sound understanding of the principles of sustainable design.
- Be experienced in delivering projects in a Design & Build and client-side environment from feasibility and concept stage through detailed design delivery.
- Should have worked with and have experience working on UK and other international projects.
- Have comprehensive experience in mechanical design, specifications, drawings and BIM models for large scale projects related to Water and Wastewater Treatment plants, Pumping stations and other related structures,Water and wastewater conveyance systems, Drainage systems, Flood protection facilities, Hydraulic design including hydraulic calculations. Experience with Surge analysis and pipeline surge mitigation is preferable.
- Have a sound and practicable understanding of process safety protocols: HAZOP, DSEAR, LOLER etc.
- Possess strong stakeholder management skills, e.g. awareness and understanding of other discipline inputs and how this influences mechanical solutions.
- Familiar with British standards; other international codes and standards, and practices related to Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong command of BIM/digital/data analytics software as applicable.
- Exposure to various Common Data Environment (CDE) platforms like BIM /ACC
Qualifications & Experience:
- Around 20 years of experience and having a BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status and membership of a professional institution such as IET, InstMC or CIWEM
- Significant experience and track record in technical delivery of process plant systems on complex engineering projects, preferably related to water and wastewater industry.
- Experience of working on design and construct projects using digital design platforms
- Team leader with collaborative behaviours
- Feasibility to detailed design stage delivery experience
