Job Summary:
This Associate Tech Lead will work as part of the Electrical Engineering team and is responsible to lead electrical motor and generator, motor drive development projects for use in HVAC/ Transport refrigeration products. Also, this role will have responsibility for the design and development of Electrical Subsystems for various product lines. The role will have strong focus on new technologies, processes and applying these technologies to various product lines.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute motor, generator and motor drive module projects and integration into electrical subsystems for new product developments.
- Definition of component design and interface requirements distilled down from marketing and system level product requirements.
- Development, implementation, and coordination of component / system validation plans in R&D test facilities in conjunction with the Test and Reliability teams, using systematic methodology, such as DFMEA and performance modeling.
- Develop and maintain advanced technology roadmap of electric motors applications within the company’s product portfolio, working with relevant cross functional teams.
- Perform motor selection, analysis and lead the qualification in our systems. Drive design optimizations with selection and application of best in industry motion technologies.
- Perform in-depth analysis, simulation, and design of electromechanical rotational machines, using analytical tools available in the industry to predict required application performance in the system.
- Identify and design to meet relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Invent new solutions that give our products technological differentiation to satisfy customers unmet needs.
- Author lab test plans, conduct testing, analyze, and interpret results and execute design updates based on the results.
- Strategic in creating inputs to technical and capability growth roadmaps and tactical focus in delivering specific projects.
- Develop project plans, prioritize tasks, and write clear technical requirements in collaboration with product development teams and suppliers, and present materials in formal and informal environments.
- Liaison with Controls & Software Development groups to develop software and Controls Algorithms for different product units.
- Provide guidance and leadership to designers, lab technicians and other team members.
- Manage projects as a Lead Engineer and Project Manager. Drive project execution and achieve project milestones.
- Knowledge of relevant electrical safety standards and protocols applicable to mobile, Automotive industry.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in an Electrical / Electronic Engineering discipline.
- Approximately 8 - 10 years of experience in electrical Product design experience in the industrial, or automotive industry desired.
- Onsite Experience in US or EU is Preferred
- Position is based in Bangalore
Key Competencies:
- Experience in design and development of motors, generators, Inverter driven motors and VFD drives knowledge is an advantage.
- Prior Experience of component qualification programs and NPD Projects in an automotive/ machinery environment is a distinct advantage.
- System integration experience in a variety of motor and generator topologies.
- Very good knowledge of physical motor attributes when paired with power electronic drives.
- Ability to perform detailed calculations to compute and establish standards and specifications.
- Capable of developing and executing test plans, interpreting test data, and developing and driving relevant corrective measures where necessary.
- Understanding of relevant motor standards (NEMA) and manufacturing processes including wire winding, die casting, materials, machining, extrusions.
- Proven ability to develop strong working relationships with cross-functional teams, (program manager, product engineering, manufacturing, service, training, supply management, product management, sales, suppliers, etc.)
- Strong proficiency with verbal and written communication skills, analytical problem solving, and creativity.
- Experience in simulation using Modelling tools (Matlab, Dymola) would be an advantage.
- Proven problem-solving ability, experience with standard analysis and reporting tools (A3, 8D, DFMEA, Fishbone/5-whys etc.).
- Application understanding in industrial and consumer transportation, transport refrigeration, off road agricultural, construction equipment, or HVAC engineering experience desired but not required.
- Knowledge and experience of control systems and software testing and debug an advantage.
