Admissions and GTE Assessment Officer (South Asia)


About the role


The Admissions and GTE Assessment Officer (South Asia) role is multifaceted with key responsibility for assessing the eligibility of international students for admission, and assessment of DHA student visa criteria of Genuine Students and Genuine Temporary Entrant based on requested documentary evidence to secure a positive student visa outcome. The position provides efficient and effective administration processes using various international student management systems to support the University’s international recruitment objectives for Deakin College.


Key Responsibilities


  • Under the direction of the Admissions and Compliance Coordinator, work closely with Deakin College Admissions Team to assist and ensure the timely processing of applications from international students in accordance with the agreed Service Level Agreement
  • Liaise with the admissions team, recruitment team, source country office, recruitment agents, and applicants regarding application and GTE enquiries.
  • Process admissions-related tasks as required including assessing applications for admissions, issue conditional/ unconditional offers, providing applications outcome, follow-up on pending documents etc.
  • Student GTE interviews and financial checks are carried out, recorded, and communicated accurately in a timely manner.
  • Meet the KPIs for positive student visa outcomes and student visa approval rate set by the Manager.
  • Accurate Information on eligibility based on good working knowledge of overseas education systems and qualifications and the international admissions criteria for all University courses.
  • Finalisation of Admissions and GTE assessments produced in line with university policy and procedures and in a timely manner.
  • Successfully meet the agreed KPIs for turn-around times for Application and GTE Assessment processing outcomes set by the Manager.
  • Ensuring applications are referred in a timely manner to appropriate officers.
  • Application data maintenance in the relevant university and Navitas student management systems is recorded with a high level of accuracy to ensure reports from the databases are reliable.
  • Feedback on application quality and documentation is reported to Admissions and Compliance Coordinator (South Asia), Admissions Manager, Recruitment teams and Source Country Offices for discussions with agents.
  • Ensure high satisfaction in customer service experience.
  • Meeting the (KPI’s) on phone and email responses set by the Manager.
  • Alert Manager to emerging issues and recommend improvements to processes and the student experience.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience


  • A relevant degree qualification and/or equivalent professional administrative training and GTE assessment experience in a large and complex educational organisation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of Australian international education including application assessment in accordance with university policies and procedures and a comprehensive knowledge of Streamlined Student Visa Framework and related DHA criteria
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, high level of attention to detail and proven ability to exercise judgement and initiative
  • High level of computer competency, including data management through record uploads and data retrieval in large scale databases and word processing skills
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise with and establish effective professional relationships with internal and external clients from a range of backgrounds and cultures.
  • Proven organisational, time management and administrative skills to meet KPIs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of University and Pathway program requirements and rules.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently under broad supervision and as part of a team and to maintain a high level of efficient client service.
