Job Purpose

To lead and oversee shift operations in baggage handling areas, ensuring accurate sorting, reconciliation, and delivery of baggage. The role requires managing the team to comply with airline and regulatory requirements while ensuring operational excellence and adherence to safety standards.




Key Result Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage all baggage handling operations during the shift, including sorting, arrival, and transfer processes.
  • Brief the baggage agents on airline-specific requirements, updated procedures, and standards for baggage handling as required by airlines, airport authorities, and company policies.
  • Monitor the accuracy of baggage tag scanning using the company-provided baggage reconciling unit and ensure alignment with the Departure Control System (DCS).
  • Ensure proper stacking of baggage on Baggage Handling Equipment (BHE) and verify container/trolley sheets for accuracy before dispatching baggage to flight stands.
  • Ensure joining bags and transfer bags are released to respective flights within stipulated timeframes and all related documentation is cross-checked for accuracy.
  • Regularly inspect the baggage belts, belt areas, and other zones for fallen or misplaced items, ensuring no baggage is left unattended.
  • Ensure team members check the serviceability of BHE units and other equipment before use and report any defects promptly.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with procedures for handling dangerous goods and adherence to airline and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular audits of the Lost and Found and LZ baggage rooms to improve reconciliation and minimize baggage claims.
  • Communicate effectively with Ramp and Load Control to address any issues impacting baggage loading/unloading processes.


Key Result Responsibilities - Continued
  • Liaise closely with airline representatives to meet operational requirements.
  • Disseminate rosters to team members and ensure adherence to schedules.
  • Ensure defective equipment is reported and sent for repair per company procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized working environment, ensuring that equipment and stationery are stored properly.
  • Monitor team performance, provide guidance to address operational challenges, and enforce safety compliance and adherence to company policies.
  • Promptly address additional manpower or resource requirements to the Airside Operations manager.
  • Identifying and reporting all occurrences, hazards, operational irregularities, unsafe conditions or practices in a timely manner and be familiar with company SMS policies and responsibilities.
  • This job description is not exhaustive. The Baggage Team Leader may be assigned additional duties and responsibilities in alignment with operational needs.


Qualifications (Academic, training, languages)
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or a minimum of 3 years' experience in Baggage handling with an airline or ground handling provider. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination with Load Controllers, dispatch, and other stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required by flight schedules.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work in various weather conditions


Work Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in Baggage handling with an airline or ground handling provider. or High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of Baggage reconciliation process and BHS.
  • Strong understanding of aircraft loading, weight and balance principles, and dangerous goods regulations.
