On 1973, the United Arab Emirates took over the responsibilities and tasks of providing healthcare, preventive and treatment services, establishment of hospitals and health centers as well as management and technical supervision of all private sectors institutions related to this area.
Currently, the Ministry of Health works through three key sectors and six medical districts.
