4 Magical Energy-Boosting Foods for Suhoor that You Probably Didn’t Know About

Suhoor

Ramadan is coming up, and first of all, I would like to wish you a month full of good things and blessed times. I know how hard it can be to get through the day, but remember, you’re not alone in this and by the end of the day, you’ll have an unequaled feeling of achievement and wonderful Iftar table waiting for you! What makes Suhoor so special? Well, besides its holiness, in Ramadan, Suhoor is the last thing you get to eat before the sun comes up again. That’s right, all you people looking for a good diet, hop on. However, all jokes aside, in order to survive a long summer day of Ramadan, you need to learn the secrets to a healthy and well-balanced Suhoor. We spoke with Bana Salameh, a registered dietitian based in Montreal, Canada, and she recommended four foods that you should include in your predawn meal:

1. Complex Carbohydrates High in Fiber

Bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, beans and, our most favorite, Hummus, are all examples of complex carbohydrates that are high in fibers. These foods tend to slowly dissolve in our body, giving you energy for the whole day!

2. Protein

No, we're not talking bodybuilder protein shakes, what we mean is natural protein; protein that comes from eggs, chicken breasts, dairy products and again, Hummus. Seriously guys, go with Hummus, and no drinking protein shakes before sleep!

3. Healthy Fats

Sorry we had to use the F word, but in our defense, we did use the word healthy before it. Fats don’t only scare us, they also scare hunger away. They help you feel full for a longer time and you can find those in olive oil, nuts and seeds.

4. An Apple a Day, Keeps the Doctor Away (A Cucumber Too, By the Way)

Fruits and vegetables, people! I mean, seriously, you’ve been hearing about how healthy those things are ever since you were as old as the kid above. Yet, here it is again, fruits and vegetables give you vitamins and minerals... and water! Not only will you stay hydrated, you will also get the benefits of a dietitian's best-kept secret.
