Day in the Life of an Entrepreneur and Author: Ram Ganglani

Ram Ganglani is an entrepreneur, businessman and mentor. Ram brings five decades of experience, wisdom and expertise to his company, Right Selection. Ram’s interests include health and fitness, music, poetry, and literature. His first book, entitled “405 Magical Affirmations to Inspire Your Break through to Success”, co-authored with Jack Canfield was launched in October 2014. In this quick interview with Bayt.com, Ram shares a typical day in his life.

Ram’s Agenda:

6:30AM – 7:30AM I wake up at around 6:30AM and spend my first hour meditating. Meditation is part of my daily routine; I need to spend some time in silence, reflecting and connecting with my source of energy. This gives me the stamina, the strength to “get up and go”, to face the challenges that each day brings.

7:30AM – 8:00AM My wife, Shallu, is usually up by this time, and to give ourselves a nourishing start, we enjoy a bowl of flax seeds, followed by fresh fruits in order to make sure we load ourselves with good, wholesome nutrients to kick start the day.

8:00AM – 8:45AM I go down for a brisk walk as there is a beautiful quiet walkway behind our building on Sheikh Zayed Road, where a few people exercise and walk each morning. My son Gautam, who lives just a couple of buildings away, joins me twice a week on the days he is not with his trainer at the gym. For a change, I sometimes attend a yoga class at a nearby institute.

8:45AM – 9:30AM I get ready and then head out.

9:30AM – 12.30PM I walk to Caribou Coffee which is five minutes away. The ambience there is friendly and warm, which is why I usually set up my meetings at this location. On the average, I have just one 60-minute meeting every day, either with a business associate or a personal friend. I then use about an hour of my time to check emails, phone calls and stay connected with the office. Having served over 20 years at Right Selection, my role and responsibilities as the company’s CEO have now shifted. I have taken a back-seat and handed over the reins to my son Gautam who is highly capable of carrying on the show, with even greater vigor.

12:30PM – 1:30PM I walk back home to have lunch with my wife and then head to the office, which is just a 20-minute drive away.

2:00PM – 5:30PM As I arrive to the office, I greet each of my 5 team members then check the paperwork they may have left on my desk. I first attend to, and sign, a few selected documents that need my attention and approval. Those that involve a quick read, I clear fast, while I keep aside the documents that need further analysis and take them home. I usually have quick one-on-one meetings with my team to discuss any pending matters that need my attention. I do my best to limit these meetings to a maximum of 20 minutes for each team member, so as not to end up spending too much of my team’s time. Gautam usually has a couple of meetings scheduled in the afternoon and if any of these involve long-term strategy or new partnerships, he invites me to join so he can introduce me to the potential partner, and also for me to be aware of all the ongoing projects. My day ends around 5:30PM.

6:00PM – 7:00PM When I get back home I usually meet my grandchildren (Gautam’s two daughters) playing with the other children in the neighborhood. If I am late or I miss them, then I go up to Gautam’s with my wife to see them. It’s extremely relaxing to switch off and have some fun playing with the children and just listening to them sharing their day.

7.00PM – 8:00PM I spend an hour relaxing and chatting with my wife to catch up on the day or use this time to go out together for any family errands.

8.00PM – 10:00PM I finish dinner by 9:00PM and then spend some time reading or watching TV.

10:00 PM This is when I retire for the day. I read again for about 20 minutes, while listen to soft music, before dozing off into sweet dreams at around 10:30 PM. The rewarding part of the work we do is the ability to inspire professionals from every walk of life and make a difference in their lives. This gives us inner fulfillment and a great sense of personal joy; it boosts our energy levels, which makes us want to do even more for other professionals in the future through all the workshops, seminars and courses provided by Right Selection. Working in the field of Training and Development needs a lot of dedication, perseverance, and discipline.

It all comes from a passion and a desire deep within to serve unconditionally, without being motivated by the astounding financial rewards that every company yearns for. This mission involves spreading knowledge and information, while encouraging people to take action to achieve the results they want.

My advice to professionals working in the services industry: You need to take time to build a dream-team that cares for its community and is ready to ride with you on the journey that you have visualized. With their buy-in come the enthusiasm, energy and involvement that are required for any company to succeed and to continue to expand year after year.
