Main Activities/Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the organisation and presentation of undergraduate laboratories, including co-ordinating with academic staff on course content, timetabling and procedures.
2. Be responsible for the maintenance, calibration, repair and fault finding of analogue and digital instrumentation (including oscilloscopes, signal generators and other test equipment).
3. Ensure that laboratory spaces are safe, clean, and well-organized. Maintain laboratory inventory and order supplies and materials as needed.
4. Provide technical support and guidance to undergraduate students during practical sessions.
5. Advise the workshop supervisor on the purchase of new capital equipment and consumables for use within the workshop, and undergraduate laboratories.
6. Provide technical advice on the design and feasibility of the manufacture of components used by the Department’s undergraduate student population in the course of their practical work.
7. Provide expert technical advice on PCB manufacturing processes, including modern design methods and circuit construction.
8. Oversee the work of and delegate tasks to other technicians as deemed appropriate by line manager.
9. Consult with academic staff in the preparation of work activities for teaching. Ensure equipment is available and functional to enable the workshop and laboratories to run successfully.
10. Ensure Health and safety regulations are adhered to and advise users accordingly. Responsible for safe operation of all workshop machinery within the bounds of university and HSE regulations. Ensure all health and safety aspects are addressed within workshop area. e.g., prepare and produce Risk Assessments, COSHH, safety training, maintaining safety records, machine maintenance and repair.

Qualification Required
Educated to a minimum of Higher National Certificate (HNC) level in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline, or have completed a relevant Modern Apprenticeship in addition to having relevant experience in a similar role, or significant equivalent experience in a similar role.
