Main Activities/Responsibilities:
1. Proactively contributing to the design, preparation, and delivery of the teaching labs in the UG programme by liaising with the laboratory-dedicated teaching fellow, lecturers, and administrative staff
2. Contribute to the development and the implementation of the Health and Safety Thread in our UG courses (working closely with academic staff to include H&S training in UG teaching laboratories and laboratory-based dissertations)
3. Support the 4-th year dissertations in the area of structural, geotechnical, and hydraulic engineering, in particular the operation and maintenance of the automated digitally controlled equipment for material testing
4. Coordination of training of technical staff in the area of operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment and asset management
6. Develop procedures to record H&S training and RAs and monitor the implementation of H&S procedures. Monitor non-compliance of technical areas and activities with H&S regulations and report to the Health and Safety Officer and the HoD
7. Sign off relevant Risk Assessments as the competent individual for specific activities in the Civil Engineering area and provide feedback/revision of Risk Assessment prepared by lecturers to ensure compliance with The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
8. Advise Facilities Manager on the purchase/maintenance of capital equipment, organise the departmental storage space, and implement procedures for sample storage
9. Manage and coordinate workload among the technical staff, delegating as appropriate to meet operational need. Involvement in the selection and appointment of technical staff
10. Build relationships with suppliers. Build business case for capital equipment updates. Responsible for specifying and pricing of laboratory equipment to provide the department with cost effective solutions

Qualification Required
Educated to a minimum of Higher National Diploma (HND) level (or equivalent) in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or a relevant discipline or have completed a relevant Modern Apprenticeship in addition to having relevant experience in a similar role, or you will have significant equivalent experience in a similar role.
